Favourite Turkey Call

Post by DropTine »

Just trying to get everyone pumped for turkey season. What is your favourite turkey call? Mine would have to be my Quaker Boy Eradicator Slate call, or my Primos WP-1 Mouth Call.

I accually just today bought a Primos mouth call its the deadly double stacked frame i really like it the reeds stay seperated & it sounds really nice too, im going to get the other one the Dirty double tomorrow , im also waiting for a Primos sonic dome to come in the mail soon. Also use box calls , i bought (on ebay) a hand crafted box call from WOODSONG game calls LTD. it is really nice, numbered & signed, really sweet sounding. I cant wait to get out turkey hunting , i badly wana wack one with my crossbow , killed lots with the shotgun , i have hunted turkeys quite a few times with the xbow(had them in the scope) but never got the chance for a good shot .

Homemade wingbone call for me.Seems to be a different pitch that hits them into a "come and see" reaction :)
Give it a try,What the heck!

My favorite go to call is my old Lynches World Champion box call.

I have so many friction and mouth calls though, its tough to know what I am going to carry some days. But the box always goes.

I called in a couple last year with the "Quaker Boy Little Onesider". Can get some nice sounds from that , but keep your chalk handy.
Ended up taking the Big Jake with my Exomax after calling for 15 min. or so. :)

Depends on the timing of the season, but usually Perfection double and triple reed diaphram calls, and/or my ole Lynch box call and/or a homemade slate call with corncob striker are sweet any day, and I typically mix them up in sequence, but in the wind I like a higher pitch and use a aluminum call with plastic striker or if I really need to crank 'em up a Quakerboy box with the big paddle that allows me to reach out a long way... Works good out west where they aren't nearly as call shy... but to finish'em off when they're inside 100 yds I still use my voice... I'll putt and purr and cackle to move them in, and combo that with the slate call to sound like more than one hen, but I don't have the power in the vocal cords to reach the long distances calling way I used to....

 I know how you feel wabi .I had a favorite scratch box with penn. slate on it but being in a hurry to set up on a bird last year it was sitting in the WRONG pocket in the vest .Now I have a splintered box .My favorite don`t leave home without has to be my true triple calls ,they just have a sound that no other calls can produce almost like a wingbone .
