At the ripe old age of 55 And 1/2 I decided to give it up on Valentines Day Feb 14 2008 I have been an Electrician for 29 years and a Electrical Superintendent for 4 Years Grand Total of 33 Years in the trade. The past 6 months i have had nothing but problems with the young 35 and under Electricians and apprentices They know everything, LAZY, Do NOT want to take direction, RUDE to G.C.'s and there Superintendents, Allways a few minutes late for work, Allways picking up 15 minutes Early, Take there 30 minute lunch and first stop after that is not back to work but have to hit the Port o Pot for 15 minute sit down. Question there sloppy work And it is like the world is comeing to an end It's not Sloppy i am just to Picky is there remark. When i reprimand them i am too tough and PICKING on them So it finally built up enough and i told the Boss of 16 years i Quit {Retire} I am meeting with our Realator on Monday to get more aggresive with selling our house in Florida so we can get out of here and up to our place in Tennessee Full time My wife and i can not wait too get out of here
I know exactly how you feel..... When it's time, it's time!!!....This is just another page in your book of life... Turn the page and read on... You're a young man and it sounds like you've got a good game plan and someone to share it with, so....Enjoy it!!!.... Good Job!.....
Now you'll have to find some way to use all that extra time.
I know how you feel about the work quality. Exactly the reason I stick to self-employment and seldom have a helper. I can usually do it faster by myself, and know the quality is what it needs to be when I'm finished.
If you decide you would like to do some work later on you might look into part-time self-employment.
As for the housing market, all I can say is good luck!
I've had a house on the market for 5 months now and it doesn't look like it's going any time soon.

Congratulations! In the 10yrs of my own business I've gone through 14 employees. I quiet understand what you are talking about. The sense of entitlement lasts for about 10 seconds with me. I've got 3 great employees that have been with me from just about the beginning who have very little attitude but can accept a corrective word now and then.
The great thing about your retirement is that you can apply your trade anywhere as much as you want. I bet if you looked for ten minutes you could get as much or as little work as you wanted. I'm jealous!
congrats on your retirement,,, i worked for 45 years with the same company & reitred at 65,,you know when it is time. believe me you will love it,,,,,,,,keep your mind busy it will keep your body busy. have a good day,,,,,,,h.j.
Congrats, I retired Jan4th. Don't know where I ever found the time to go to work. We sold our Pigeon Forge house an moved to a more rural area, no more loud tourists, helicopter riders and traffic jams. Enjoy and practice and hunt more for the both of us.
