Which one do you shoot?
I know of an incident similar to this where one buck was shot ---hence 1 dead and 1 alive and still locked together. The move was to saw off antlers to release the live buck. Which set of antlers are to be cut off -- alive or dead. The alive animal was exhausted and the people involved sawed off the antler (s) of the dead buck and thus released the live one. It was felt that this would be more humane than sawing off antlers on a living animal. Besides the alive buck would lose his antlers along with the extra set with all being back to normal. The operation went successfully and the live buck made its way off in a slow and weakened state.
I would not attempt the above without having others to assist. It is a dangerous situation to handle as these animals are very strong. If I was unable to obtain help, I would not hesitate to shoot both and if no one was hunting that could claim the other animal I would call authorities and explain situation.

In Ontario, it is not permitted to shoot a deer in water.

Those are legal in Ontario. You can shoot them in the water, but not while they are swimming. A foot on the ground is legal, in or out of the water.xboman wrote:In Ontario, it is not permitted to shoot a deer in water.
That would be a tough decision though, a couple nice deer.. Not my idea of hunting, but sure would be cool to watch.
If you are not willing to learn, nobody can help you, if you are willing, nobody can stop you.

Well this is exactly what happen to me about 4 years ago.
I was hunting my land one morning, when I could hear lots of ravens cackling about half a mile away, right on the edge of our property. I knew that someting was dead by the way they were acting, just not sure what. I made my way there, all the ravens flew, as I went into to bush from the cut line, there before me was two big bucks locked together, one dead and half eaten by coytoes and the other one still alive, watching his opponent being eaten. One scored 183 the other about 175 both gross. R.J. on this forum has seen the locked set.
This area is fairly remote with not many hunters trekking that far in, in fact after 15 years of hunting that area, I only seen two hunters the whole time. I did the live buck a favor that morning, because if I heard right, generally the yotes will eat one at a time, with the live one being next.

I'd shoot both of them so neither would suffer a terrible death.
(Yeah, thats it,didn't want them to suffer)
I dont know the laws there but I would think to shoot both would be ok if the situation were explained.
