How long do the STS stoppers last?

Post by Boo »

So I did some shooting today with my Vortex to see how long the stoppers last.
The arrow was 385 grains chronied at 321 ft/sec with 44 strand string with one set of whiskers. I did not turn them at all. In 55 shots the bumpers are now showing a crack. So I am guessing they will last around 70 shots or so if they are turned periodically. Good or bad, I don't know. Any one know how much the replacements are?

Edit:I just noticed that the string was three turns too low and I should note that the area that hits the stopper was not served.

I think I might put a STS or the Hoyt version on my Bowtech. If they make much of a difference.

There might be a slight increase in vibration or noise, but I've wondered if it would make a difference in having the bumpers a small distance away from the string when at rest. That way the stings uses up some of it's energy instead of slamming into the bumpers at full speed when set against the string.

They're meant to reduce vibration and noise...

I meant away from the string might create more vibration and noise at the cost of adding life to the bumpers, but still less vibration and noise than without the STS.

I confused myself.

Boo, I emailed Dan (MeanV) last night I think his stoppers might be a bit different rubber so maybe they will last longer on the crossbows. I know his work great on the verticals.
