Foam filling
I bought my first new crossbow and set it up on Tuesday. Sighted it in off handed for 20yds and after my last adjustment I shot 4 arrows with the fletching touching. I was impressed with the New Vortex. At that point I decided it was a keeper so instead of sighting it in for further distances I put it up. I had some around the house that needed my attention.
Last night I read every post I could on here about foam filling the rail. Today I jumped in with BOTH FEET. Thanks guys for all your help thru your post.
I taped up the entire outside of the rail.
I cut a couple pieces of aluminum arrow to insert in thru the riser holes.
I made a wooden insert to go in the lower channel at the trigger end that was as just wider than the trigger. I drilled a couple holes in it to match the rail and used the screws to hold it place. This left me a gap on each side that I could fill.
I then coated all screws, arrows inserts and wooden insert and trigger are with vaseline. Next I took a length of old oxygen tubing and put it on the great stuff nozzle. After spreading out newspaper on the floor and a pair of latex gloves I began.
Things I learned:
This stuff is Messy. It helps to have an extra set of hands. This stuff is MESSY.
It would have been a good idea to super glue the nozzle to the tubing. It popped apart several times resulting in me needing the wife to wipe up the MESS. At one point some even got in her hair. Luckily it was just on a couple strands. Next was 2 big wads on the hardwood floor and no acetone to clean it up with but Starting fluid worked. I would also recommend doing this somewhere besides on the hardwood floor of your living room
Its curing now so tomorrow I will try getting all the tape off and do some trimming. I also filled the gaps in the stock.
Now All I need is a Boo string.

Still laughing too hard to type . . .I can't believe your wife jumped in and helped. Mine would still be screaming at me.
Let your wife have the honor of first shot.
Thanks for sharing your experience, let us know how it turns out.

Well I have a garage and a basement that have concrete floors but niether has a TV and computer viewable from my recliner. Heck last year I had a buck on ice in the bathroom overnight. Did I mention I'm a redneck

I have filled all mine as well. Never had a mess yet though.
Makes a difference in shot vibration. I like the improvement, and cheap. It is worth while to do to all the Excal's. Rail's and Stock's.IMHO.
