I have often wondered the same thing, I watch my tree stand from the road quite often, daily in fact. There are frequently birds right under it.
I have been told, and I believe it, that the birds realize the sound of the calls is not originating from the ground and it makes them leary.

If you are not willing to learn, nobody can help you, if you are willing, nobody can stop you.

A long, long time ago . . .when I was still brave enough to climb a tree . . .a group of birds(must have been around 20) came under my stand while I was deer hunting with my compound. It was impossible to move into position to shoot because I had 40 eyes on me. Seems like I waited for an hour(was probably only 30 seconds) for the birds to look the other way. Anyway, I got busted before I got the bow off my knee.
Yes . . .turkeys look up and your skyline is easy to see. Much easier to hunt turkey from a ground blind.

Thankyou for covering the most part. You are also limited in moving to better setups or covering areas that one can not get to in a standsumner4991 wrote:A long, long time ago . . .when I was still brave enough to climb a tree . . .a group of birds(must have been around 20) came under my stand while I was deer hunting with my compound.
