here was his first try at scoring on the other forum
now with that being said, one thing I see you did wrong measuring is that you are getting the tine length from the bottom of the beam. You need to take a string and run along the top of the beam across the tine. Make a mark there. That is where you start the tine measurement. So thats a good chunk of inches there. No ones bashing you, just trying to help you score. It takes pratice. The best way to practice is to actaully get a scoresheet of a buck, and you try to score him and then look at your measurements. It took me a few years to get the hang of it. I score all my friends deer and im usually within 1-2 inches of the official final scores. Also, you are basing the antlers on that 149inch buck. You can have a WIDE rackes buck which makes the narrow rack deer look like a baby. That doesnt mean it scores more. Score is based on the PERFECTION on the rack and tines. More more even, the higher the score for typicals. A narrow, long tined, massive rack with outscore a WIDE racked deer just about 95% of the time but 10-20inches.
based upon looking, I would gross those antlers at 145max.. The extra point would deduct some points and probably net that deer at 132ish B&C
If you had a set of 190inch sheds, north american whitetail mag and buckmasters would be knocking at your door:)
if you had a 190inch set of antlers beside those, they would look like 4pt sheds
thats a shooter buck no doubt, and this year add about 10-20inches so you will have a (160gross)150ish NET buck walking in that AREA! Hunt him hard;)
if you can, maybe find someone that scores officially and get him to score them for you for fun so you can practice.. practice makes perfect and goodluck
tip to tip 6"
greatest spread 20"
inside spread 18"
length of main right antler 30.5
G1-5"
G2-10"
G3-10"
H1-6.25
H2-6.25
H3-6.00
H4-5.00
total-79.5
left antler
length of main beam 28"
G1-5"
G2-9"
G3-10"
G4-8"
H-1 6.5"
h-2 6''
H-3 5.5''
H-4 5.5''
total 83.5''
deuctions are 4''
ASSUMED TOTAL FOR SPREAD is 30.5'' (again i can only guess as compared to the much smaller rack/scull that i have.)
193.5'' minus 4'' deuctions plus a 1'' sticker equals
190.5''

Va scores deer like that officially also which is normally 15-25pts higher than the others B&C scores. My biggest deer in Va scored 162B&C but under the other B&C scoring system it only scores in the low 140'sFredBear wrote:190? I think maybe you added your tip to tip and your outside spread into your score which you do not do. Them are for identification. You always do something wrong scoreing your first deer. One day you'll look back at this and laugh! I'd say 140 gross.
but still, that deer in Va's scoring system would only gross 150-160 max. If I had a 190inch set of sheds I would have some mag's on call LOL

i still think 130:ss dos not have the mass u would ezpect of a 150 class deer
Going by the numbers he posted on that other forum it would score 166 4/8, but the proportions are off. If those are 10 inch G2s, there is no way it carries 5 or 6 inches of mass. Even so, nice buck.

I also come up with 166 1/2 by your numbers. I'm really thrown off by the pictures, I would never guess those beams were 28 and 30.5 inches with 6 inches of mass.

When I looked at the picture, I thought the G1 on the left antler was missing.
Looking at the numbers posted, side-to-side differences are 13" - not 4". I can't believe the masses - they're shown as 6" averages, where I'd put them at 3 1/2" averages. Tine lengths seem grossly inflated as well. I can't understand why he's scoring it as a non-typical when it has only one abnormal point of 1" in length.

I hunt, therefore I am.

in my opinion any racks i have seen it takes all of ten points and a lot of mass to make a 150 class deer. reminds me of the guys that take the old chevy three fifty engenes do a few bolt ons and think they have five hundred horeses we all know some of them
Here are a few references to compare the shed sizes to a 149 7/8" buck.
