sweetlix

Post by fuel80guy »

Has anybody ever used sweetlix mineral licks?
I saw them at the local TSC store and thought i might give them a try.
I read the ingredients and it looked like theres alot of salt in these licks.
Any input would be greatly appreciated.

I just checked my licks this afternoon. They have only been in the bush two weeks and there was no signs of it at all. I can't be sure if anything other than deer are eating it but they didn't last long. Last year it was the same. I also use the small redish salt blocks from TSC. they are a little more cost effictive and I think they stand the elements longer. I am using the apple flavour and the acorn.

I don't have any experience with this brand, but the fact that it has a lot of salt. Salt is like fast food to us. They will keep coming to it, but it's not good for them. I now use mineral base attractents with salt in them. The theory being they come to it and they get there minerals at the same time.

I used to own a feed mill with my father up until3 1/2 years ago. Sweetlix ,yes is a mineral block but is made up of25% water. I breaks down in the elements very fast. If you would have a sheltered area where rain and sun couldn't break it down it would work. Another product that is better (yes we sold it) is Crystalyx tubs. They are a little more money but only 2-3% moisture and only a small "scum" about a 1/4" thick is formed on the top that the animal can lick. Also when you introduce the blocks/tubs the animals will use it frequently at first as they maybe are lacking some of the trace minerals it the product also it's like candy to kids. When we got our orders in I used take a small piece from a corner that may have come off. Tasted something like chocolate.Hope I wasn't sounding like a salesman, it's hard to get it out of your blood. The Crystalyx product had NO SALT.

This is a salt lick site which has been active for about two seasons.

It is the red block from TSC in Chatham.

We just toss another block in the hole once a year!

The salt blocks are made to be in the elements. As you see them in the pastures for cattle and horses to satisfy themselves. That is a deep pocket, pretty sweet/salty.

I know if I had my salt directly on the ground it would melt alot faster than if I had it on a log or rock. Try that I know it made a huge difference for me.
