Disjointed Thoughts

Post by Mike P »

I would like to go on record here letting all our forum brothers (and sister, can't forget vix) know just what a great sport and wonderful person we have here in awshucks. A short while ago he and I PM'd about the state of the forum. It was not a good time. It seemed bad news was hitting day after day. Ray was not doing well. Sax was not getting good news. Some of the political threads were getting a little bit dicey with the rhetoric getting personal. It just didn't feel right to either of us.

We decided to try and change the tune a bit. We decided a nice little confrontation between the two of us was just the medicine needed. We hoped that others would join in and felt sure we could count on grizz to respond to a few slaps to the face, lol. Who would have thought that BBQ would be the nerve! He outdid himself! His legal letter is a work of art! This is a guy I want to party with!

I am surprised that more of our southern members didn't respond or take the linguistic bait I set out there. But even more surprising was the lack of responses from our northern members when I jabbed at them. In retrospect, I should have known you guys (and gal) wouldn't take offense at someone saying you couldn't aim. In the future I will know to make derogatory comments about your country's lack of skill regarding the manufacture of crossbows and beer. I bet that will get your blood going! Oh, and Seagull Guitars! I love Seagull Guitars!

Ray is home. Sax has killed a couple of deer. The political stuff is still going on. I can't wait for the election to be over so we see the end of those discussions here.

I found myself smiling while I read of the buck rubbing the tree while crazyfarmer couldn't see him. Made me feel like I was there. Eyes straining in the half dark, adrenalin rush making out the width of the rack as the buck left. Yep, made me feel like I was sitting next to him. I bet it made Ray feel that way too. And I bet it made lots of folks who still haven't made it out to the woods yet due to one commitment or another feel the same.

I have to admit the posts I like the best are about the first harvest of a deer or a first buck. I really get a kick out of reading of the success for the first time. We sometimes get jaded here thinking everyone just goes out and harvests deer. Many are still looking for their first taste.

I like reading about successful hunts from sax. His unbridled joy just shines through when he tells of his harvest. For sax, it seems that every deer kill is the same as his first. I lost that feeling so very long ago. I get a chance to feel it again when I read his posts.

I like reading about wabi's puzzle trying to figure out how to get at those does in that field. And I shake my head and say "know that feeling" when I read reports of nothing seen but squirrels.

This is it boys and girls, it's our time! The whitetails, like the acorns are starting to fall. So share those stories and pictures. Remember, a good hunt doesn't always conclude with a whitetail on the ground. Lots of great stories are about the failures.

And grizz & aw, if either of you boys come up here to see Danny Miller and don't ring me up, well, I can tell ya that just might start a real war!

i was willing to let the first comment go but now you're gone to far. he's a mad man commenting like that on our beer and crossbows he has got to be stopped. just kidding mike well written and a very sneaky plan between you and dan. i was back and forth as to weather this could possibily be real. good one i will be on the lookout for you two next time

I enjoyed reading all the jabs back and forth with the members. I wanted to see how far it was gonna go, but we may never know now. All for fun and I applause your way of lightning up the forum. I have taken deer in the past with my vert.bow and firearms, but still a VIRGIN with the phoenix. When the day does come, I will be more than happy to share the moment. Till then, happy hunting and god bless! :D

Sparring match

Post by sipsey »

Shucks, though i spent a tidy some of money and several years of time pursuing the art of combat, one thing i learned, is to stay out of an evenly matched fight.

I was looking forward to a few more rounds, but i will confess to being thoroughly entertained---Good sparring match even if no blood was drawn-- :)

Well, the jigs up, as they say. Thanks for the kind words, Mike. Glad you're on my side Grizz! I had fun, glad some of y'all did too.

Thanks to the guys that weren't amused, but had the class not to say so. :D
Make no mistake, he'd have shot me out of the air w/ something, probably w/ the same ease as he uses a key board, lol.

Sometime we read of our friends trials and tribulations and just feel helpless. I know I do.

Look at these antics as giant get well quick, smile some, take your mind off a real problem for a bit greeting cards.
