when given lemons!

Post by groundpounder »

I took a friend of mine on a Dawson Forest WMA hunt this week in the North Ga mountains. We arrived a day early to set up camp check in and scout. We are hunting in a place where you need to cross the River to get access(limited people) and we were toting waders to do this. We found a couple nice scrapes and made a set up for my friend Jonathan over the one and used a Buck Bomb to freshen the area. Made a blind for him to sit in and cleared a couple good shooting lanes. We did the same for the area that I intended to hunt also overlooking a scrape on the other side of the Amicolola River.
The plan was set! We were the only ones camping in the area. Opening morning my alarm goes off as a truck is pulling up to park. We hear banging around(later realizing they are unloading a small boat) as we are getting ready and by the time we got out they were gone. Oh well on to our hunt. We are approaching Jonathans spot when we see a flashlight right where we are going. We approach anyway and he isn't 10 yards from our set up and halway up a tree in a climber! Oh well change of plans then. I let him know we are going to cross the stream to my other set up and he informs me that that is where his budy is! This is the lemons part!
So we back out of the area and do some hiking to a couple of other locations I know of. At 9:50 I had two does come by me and I got the better of the two. Lemonaid! The next morning we put Jonathan in another location and he cleanly missed a nice doe with his first attempt but followed up taking a button with the second shot. More lemonaid! Talked to the other two guys as we were pulling out and only one of them had seen a spike. I'm not one to wish bad luck on another hunter but I guess I'm thankful our plans were changed. Even if not by our choice.

Kinda funny how stuff works out, huh. Congratulations on a nice doe. We were riding one the club yesterday and saw a buck chasing a doe but by the time we snuck back, the buck had made it to the thick and the big old doe just stood there for the longest time and didn't move. Should of let Tyler smoke her. Maybe today  .

Wabi, what are you doing up at 5:30 am? Oh, same thing I'm doing, later!
God Bless !!!!!!!!!

Some of the best bucks and best hunts are in places you didn't intend to be hunting that morning. A change of plans is not always a bad thing. Great job. Congrats to you and your buddy.

Too bad.......When this happen to me. My bowls begin to "stoveup" and are in a much need to releasing themselves imeadiately. So thats what I do, right under the guy's stand. Then I just wander off. Shouting an apoligy when I get out of range.
