Grouse hunting with crossbow?

Can anyone tell me if they hunt grouse or rabbit with crossbow and share some tips with me. what type of arrows and heads i should use and any other tips and techniques? This will be my first time, I got my license today to hunt in Ontario with bow only and I own an Excalibur cross bow.

I used to hunt with my smaller bow, 150 lb draw though. I used judo points for the rabbits, I tried for grouse but only hit one with a broadhead and took the head off.

I believe there are some points that are ver large for flying birds, look into them for grouse on the ground too.

I shot a couple grouse with my Exomax while moose hunting in Noelville/West Arm of Lake Nippising. I just used the factory GT L2's with a G5 SGH. Very accurate little broadhead. I have also shot rabbits with it too so I know it workks well on them too.

i shoot grouse with my phoenix. i use 2219's with field points and the collers that go behind the points

use a blunt end on your arrow

I know of a vertical bow hunter who makes his own wire loop points for taking the heads off grouse. They look something like this:

And I thought I was challenged trying to hunt them with a 10" single shot .410 handgun (Contender).

I haven't yet tried it with the crossbow but used to hunt them a lot when I hunted with a recurve. Had a ball. Just used blunts, judo or field tips.

make sure that you don't wander into city limits as they are not allowed in north bay city limits .....also it can get quite expensive if u miss a few birds ...i've only tried shots at small game from my stand for that reason

they won't work out of a crossbow without using longer arrows they will not clear the stirrup
