What is the word on the S/W Ontario rut?

Is it over? I am hoping to find a straggler out there tomorrow. The muzzleloader week ends today so there should be some good sign out there for tomorrow morning.

The rut is over. The warm weather seemed to slow daytime activity but the rut proper is over now. Does are travelling with fawns again and the bucks are hitting the chowline and seem to be solitary critters that are walking around with their heads up instead of cruising at a good pace with their noses to the ground.

Nother week or two and the secondary rut will kick in but it is never as active as the first one.

that said, the big guys are eating now and can become a little more predictable in the sense that they are looking for food. Find the food, you will find the bucks.

Just went for a big walk with my son, passed under my stand and a few of my other favorite haunts. The bucks are out there all right, looks like the muzzle loader guys didn't step foot in the bush this year so hopefully the deer are moving during normal hours again after the week of no pressure.
I found a new spot today, corn is still up and deer are coming in from every direction to congregate in the corner where the farmer took a row off.
I miss the woods, that was almost a whole week away from them.

My two brothers and I were in the muzzleloader hunt this week. Not much movement at all during shooting hours of course. Lot's of movement during the night. I didn't see a single deer all week. My brother missed a nice buck on Tuesday morning. We did manage a doe on Wednesday. Those muzzleloader bullets do some major damage, that's for sure. We hunt 91B. We think the bucks are in their cruising mode right now.

I live in 91B, lots of sign, little movement during the day. Congrats on the doe!

Last couple of days i have seen few bucks wandering and eating. The bucks I seen while hunting didn't have any does. My dad said he seen a buck chasing a doe Saturday morning. I think for the most part the rut is over.
