Im not posting this to say that you shouldn't put salt blocks out, but they have quite little nutritional value to deer, can't argue with it as an attractant though.

Are mineral blocks better than salt blocks. Never put out anything but corn but thinking of doing a food plot this year.

heard salt is pretty much useless for deer other than attracting them ...i tried a few mineral blocks last year with the deer hitting them pretty hard even with 1.5 feet of snow on the ground

Isn't the salt needed by them to assist in bringing their body back into balance after feeding all winter on poor quality food sources? Thats kinda what I thought the theory was anyways.

When I order fries at Mickey-D's, I almost always say: "Could ya give me some extra salt with that?"

Why do I say that?

Not because it's satisfies any particular nutritional deficiency in me.

Not because I need it this time of year.

Not because it's particularly good for me.

No ... I ask for extra salt because I like it.

And that's the best reason to put it out for deer:

Because THEY LIKE IT! 8)

If you like for deer to like visiting a particular spot on your property over and over, then you'll like putting salt out.

It's just that simple! :D
