need new camo (for spring)

Post by subneural »

I've been away from this forum for too long, and miss it! But now April 27th is around the corner, I have permission to bowhunt on some new land, and I have turkeys on the brain.

Went to the T.O. sportsmens show today, but was a little dissapointed with the selection of hunting goods for sale :( I am in need of some new camo for the spring turkey hunt, as the gear I have now is just too big and bulky for spring.

I really appreciate your suggestions on some decent quality camo that wont break the bank. I am looking at some of the Rocky waterproof line, but at this time of year its hard to find. Any suggestions?

Get yourslf an ASAT 3D leafy suit. You can wear it over light or heavy clothing depending on weather and the hens will come and pick on your head if you can stay still.

do you want camo pattern ideas or clothing?

as far as patterns, the mossy oak obbession and realtree APG are about the best break up patterns for spring.

for the clothing line, it just depends on how cold it is in your area. I have one good rain suit incase its wet out, but usually im not turkey hunting when its raining since they dont gobble.

whitewater
Realtree Pro Series
10x
Rocky
Cabelas

all are good brands.. im just not sure what you need that you dont have. I bought the Realtree pro series leafy jacket for this season. Its light and awesome in pattern. But its for when temps are in the 60's or up, unless I wear it over a jacket.

I like my Realtree AP Cabelas Revolution Fleece in the spring and early fall. Light, water and windproof, plus burrproof.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. I've gotten my hands on some Rocky Atomic gear in Realtree AP. Its quiet and light for the warmer spring temps in May, and has scent control making is ideal for the start of deer season.

Thanks again!

I have one camo that has served me well almost all year. It is Realtree AP 3D leafy in a mesh bugsuit sold at BassPro. I simply buy it big and cover whatever clothing I need for the weather. Works well, lasts long time.

Nothing breaks up your outline like 3D leafy does. I have gotten away with things that I would have thought "no way" while wearing that suit. In the bush, you absolutely dissapear. In the trees, they never seem to look up whereas in the tall timbers and normal camo, I always seemed to have one deer find something out of place. In the snow, you simply look like a bushy little tree. I have shot coyotes sitting out in the snow and them coming in search of the squeal and they just don't seem to pick up on any human form.

From now on, I wear this stuff almost everywhere.
