Remember this tom? http://www.excaliburcrossbow.com/phpBB2 ... hp?t=26423
Well, he's playing hard to get. I set out this past Tuesday just before dawn. A light rain was coming down, and no gobbles anywhere. After a few soft yelps from my box call, I heard a hen calling back from the next farm over. Tom was silent, or gone...
After 3 hours in the ever-increasing rain, I called it in and went home, and dried off my gear
This morning I set out again, after rolling out of bed at 4:30am. I got set up about 100 yds from where I set up on Tuesday. Just getting to sunrise, and I hear some gobbles from behind, but still a ways off. I tried to play "hard to get" and keep my yelping and cutting to a minimum. After what I guess to be 15 or 20 minutes, I *thought* I heard him off to my right, but no dice. If it was him, I wasn't able to talk him in to close the deal
Despite being 0 for 2, I still learned some new things today. On my walk out, I spotted some (i'm guessing) day old tracks in the mud, on the far side of the hardwood grove from where I'd set up. You better believe I'm gonna try setting up on that side next!
