Is there a regular season too or all draw. Here where I live its 2 point or less open season and then draw for big bull and cow. Archery season opens a week early for 2 point.

Thats too bad. I have taken quite a few immature 2 points over the years (with rifle) they make good eating. Passed up lots, 2 point horns are hard to see if they are moving or feeding in the willows. Better to let em go than be unsure and drop a 3 point.

Unless things have changed since my moose hunting days, in Ontario the draw is for bull and cow tags. If you didn't have a bull or cow tag you could still hunt calves.

TPM you are generally correct. But in the last few years, certain zones (I think that there is about 5 zones) have had limited Calf tags available and they must also been drawn in a draw as well. Other then that, your moose licience is for a calf tag and you must apply for either a bull or cow tag for the Zone you want to hunt. Certain areas will give you better odds at your choice (bull or cow). You can also apply in groups for a tag (gives you a better odds), but still some zones will not guarantee you a tag with a group of 15 hunters (in Ontario 15 is the maximum number of hunters in a group).

When your hunting in a group, a calf tag does not really afford each hunter a large amount of meat. I know that when rifle hunting moose (9-10 in the group ... for tag purposes) a bull does not give you much meat either (for each hunter).

Thanks for the heads up ........... I apply for an Archery Moose Tag in an area (29) that has very limited tags for bulls (no guarantee for even groups of 15) and I apply alone because I will already be in that area and have a little knowledge already.

Good luck everybody.

Boy, I hope this review they are doing for the moose tag allocation system brings some good. I hunted moose through the 1990's and as time went on they kept cutting our number of adult tags despite the fact our moose population was obviously rising. It became almost impossible to get one. Got tired of having no adult tags despite that fact there where more and more adult moose in our area every year. Caused me to become an "ex-moose hunter".

we hunt close to algonquin park and or moose population is high but it is next to impossible to get a tag and we don't automatically get a calf tag you have to apply
