A good turkey hunt

Post by Black Coyote »

Yesterday morning I was wondering what I was doing Turkey hunting. The rain and wind was enough for me to question my sanity. I had been after this turkey for the past week but this am my hard work paid of.
I had set up, placed a single decoy hen out about 20yds. And waited around 6:30 two jakes came out and about 10 min later a mature Tom entered the field. Using my slate call I gave several calls. The Tom started to fan and headed in my direction but before he could get there the two jakes came right in and the Tom stayed back to abut 65yds and would not come any closer. Very gently I called again and he came in to 51yds. I usually I like to shoot closer but I was afraid the Jakes would make me and alarm the Tom so very gently I took aim and fired. Good hit... he weighed 24.7 lbs and his baird was 10.25".
This was my second turkey for the season.
