Only bird of the season!

Post by Petersen »

Headed out with my dad last Saturday morning, despite the bad weather. Decided we would set up a pop up blind to stay dry for the morning. Arrived 30min before sunrise, but still managed to bust a bird from roost when putting out the decoy. Turns out we were in the right spot that morning. Within 10min we were working 5 gobblers, and several hens. At about the same time the birds started coming out of the trees, the Jamaicans working in the orchard next door decided to turn up the radio for us. All became very quiet in the woods :? After about an hour or so of trying to get a Tom excited again my dad finally got a response, he had snuck up within 30 yards, directly behind us :o but of course I had not opened those windows, because why would a turkey come from behind me  . I managed to slowly open one window, and there he was! 30 yards with his head straight up. He didn't have a chance with a load of 3 1/2" #6 flying at him. Was a great hunt, thanks to my dads stellar calling.

I was hoping to get one with my new bow (thanks to R.J.) this year, but looks like I am not getting out again this season......bring on the deer hunt! Looking forward to taking my first whitetail with a bow.
