Grizz, I also would not go in the woods without my 5 shot S&W bodyguard. I didn't think to say that because it's with me all the time, everywhere I go.

I have often thought it would be cool if Les Stroud could do an episode filmed in one of our big refuges, like Pocosin Lakes NWR (next to my farm) or Alligator River NWR (across the river from my farm). He could find a situation just about as interesting and challenging as anywhere around here.

The snake is a common Brown Water Snake. Harmless enough (not poisonous), though they can be very large and quite aggressive if bothered.

The ones to really watch out for are Cottonmouth Water Moccasins ... which can look very similar to the Brown ... but a Moccasin's head and eyes are typical Pit Viper, which you can see is not the case with the Brown.

As a general rule, I don't like to be close enough to see there eyes

# 1 thing I would not be caught without is the that GOLD PAPER otherwise known as Toilet paper My fanny pack as it has my survival supplies, first aid, old style lighter (without that troublesome safety device that never seems to work with your thumbs in the cold.) and snacks.

You will never catch me in the woods with any alcohol. Just me.
