Excalibur Exomax? how powerful is it

Post by xcentric »

Hey all!, noob here
been a lurker for while, and finally decided to join & make my first post.
Completely fascinated with the Exomax's blistering power!

Currently own an outdated, semi underpowered 150lbs 9in powerstroke 230fps barnett wildcat crossbow from close to 2 decades ago.

Anyone have experience with them to compare with a 225lbs exomax with a good 100fps more, and 16.5in powerstroke.
I know the quality, accuracy, trigger mechanism is definately improved, besides the obvious power.

How much more powerful is it exactly? Anyone try it on phone books. My Barnett goes through 700pgs, and dents up to 1200pgs or so, close, but not even one full phone book unforunately. Around 40% kinetic energy if I had to guess, compared to Exomax.

Without a cocking aid, is the excalibur lot harder to cock compared to the wildcat & other 150lbs crossbows?

I appreciate the simplicity of it, over compound crossbows, but yet some of these new models with only standard 150lbs, claim 300+ fps? how is that, since compound bows primarily just make cocking easier half way through.

Quite excited in searching for one!
Looking at second hand with no accessories incld, for $500, or perhaps I'll take a look at Basspros, good deal for around $600 CAN brand new.

Any input would be greatly appreciated!
thank you in advance. happy huntin
cheers :)

The old barnett and the exomax is about like comparing a .22 to a 30-06.

you will find that most recurve style limbs take more draw weight to reach 300fps, hense the 225pounds on the exomax or equinox. Most cam compounds can reach 300 with 150-175pounds.

Just like the newer compound(long) bows can hit speeds of 360fps now. Technology changes every month :D

as far as power.. im not concerned about shooting through books. Bill T took a elephant with one if that matters. I have no trouble blowing through deer and tree's behind it:)

the 175pound models have more than enough power to kill basically anything you are hunting 8)

Hello there and welcome,--I have owned the exomax for 1 year now. Its real quick to the eye. I changed strings after I got used to it( per the excellent advice on this forum) to the flemich FF. After breaking in the new string I took it to our local arhery shop and shot it through their chrony. With a firebolt it came in at 346 FPS. As for accuracy, it will hit where one aims.

you wont want to be cocking an exomax without the rope very often. it doesnt take long for the fingers to get a little tender

My EXOMAX has never let me down. Flat shooting, reliable, and deadly accurate!!! Did I mention it will send an arrow through a 230lb buck, like a hot knife through butter!
