arrow retaining spring

Post by Crispy »

HI, Im a long time bowhunter that is new to crossbows. I just got the Vortex and I love it! Im also new to the forum. My crossbow came with the right stuff package and no owners manual. What do I need to know? I have a couple of questions. With a bolt loaded and aimed at the groung the bolt slides out and falls to the ground. Is the retaining spring adjustable? Also, my string rest on the top brace hight line, just touching my sts. Do I need to adjust the pads down a little to give the string room to strech? Thanks for any input.

The long fix: Take the scope mount off and then you can get at the screws holding that spring on, take it off and tweak it til it's about 1/4" off the rail. Reassemble.

Quickie: Take an arrow [not alum] and hold one hand on each aside of it and wedge it up under front tapered edge of scope mount and spring, perpendicular to rail, forcing a minor bend into it. Minor being the key word, try sneaking up on that 1/4" w/ repeated efforts.

I don't think you get manuals w/ new bows now, but should be a DVD in w/ it. You can go to the home page for Excal and view them all if not.

Great bow, have fun!

If your string is going to stretch a bit more you may want to adjust your pads so that the string is between just touching and a credit card thickness away.

Welcome to the forum Crispy.

Do yourself a favor and go to the home page of Excalibur and then watch all the videos. There are some great instructions there on the care and handling of the bow.
Keep smiling!
