Cocking question

Post by Snuffy »

Do you cock your crossbow before you climb up into your stand???? I have a climber with a rail around the top section. It is dificult to cock my Exocet after I'm in the tree. I have been cocking it on the ground then using the pull rope to pull it up into the tree with the safety on and without a bolt loaded. How do you do it???

I might catch some flak for this but, i cock mine before i climb up but i leave the arrow in with safety on. tie the cord around the stock at the small point by the pistol grip, that way the bow comes up the tree pointed straight down and no chance of a dry fire. when the bow is on the ground while i'm climbing it is leaned against the back of the tree pointed down.

I have adopted the practice of the rubber band on the safety until I have full control of the crossbow: from the atv to the actual stand unless I have both hands on the bow. Thank you TPM!! :D

I do the same as Laura - that rubber band is just a little bit of extra insurance should something go wrong.

I don't load my bow until it's up though, as I'd rather risk a dryfire than an injury.

Thanks for that rubber band hint lscha. Simple yet clever.

I will have one on the trigger before tomorrow's hunt.

A safety device on the safety mech. Great post as far as I'm concerned.
