I admire a guy that will admit a miss or a hit, scratch his head and take the time to follow up. I've been there and you ask yourself a thousand times what went wrong or what could I have done different. If you give it your best shot looking on a follow up, while you'll often feel like heck if you don't find the game, you're ok in my book. Think they call it hunting.

Good luck in finding him. I am sure that he is not far from where you lost the blood. Hang in there and you will find him.

Blood Ran Out

Post by bbbwb »

CF -- At the end where he came to the open area, were there any shrubby or bushy areas relatively close to that last spot of blood? On different occasions I have had deer which bled well for a good distance, come to an opening and it appears that they make 1 last giant leap with the last ounce of energy, ending in or under shrubbery, tall grass, under a log, and die on the spot or die after they have crawled a few more feet. The blood trail is abruptly ended before the leap and it appears that the deer has evaporated. I have found the deer 10 feet plus away from the last hoof print/ blood sign.
Just a thought.
Good luck.

Judging deer angles can be a tricky thing. There have been several that when I found them I could not figure out how the arrow went in at that angle. It only takes a body shift to throw lots of things out of wack.

Hope you find the buck.

I spent 2 hours looking today with no luck. All I can figure is that he doubled back down the bottom to water but its impossible to pursue in there. Ill check for buzzards in several days. I gave it my best.

Get back on the saddle mate. Ride on . . .if you shoot enough deer, then it's gonna happen. Still suks.

This is my 2nd bow lost buck ever(6th overall-yes I can count them since I remember them well). Granted I dont shoot many with the bow, but as you said it will happen if you hunt enough.

Im still going back mid week just to check for buzzards but maybe, just maybe he made it. He lost alot of blood, but you never know. Everyone locally knows so if someone stumbles on him Ill get word.

Im still sick at my stomach, but the game must go on. Ill be back out tomorrow morning. Things are getting calm here so hopefully I can get my mind on just hunting now 8) I may just wack a doe to get going again  8)

You've had a lot going on in your life lately, CF. Be good to yourself and try to enjoy just hunting again.

I know after my Dad died, I was good until I was alone in the woods - then it would all hit me and I'd get the shakes. Took a while for that to go away.

Don't be too hard on yourself. You can't change what it is.
