filled another antlerless tag this evening
Nothing to brag about, just a small one for some tender backstraps, but now I have two for the freezer so the pressure is off as far as getting meat. Now I can look for a decent buck.
Shot it at about 20 yards (long shot for me ). Perfect double lung with a Wac'Em Exit (4 blade - similar to a slick trick in cut). Recovery distance 47 yards.
I hauled a load of corn to the feeder with the landowner's tractor and pulled the card from the camera then took the tractor back and got my Phoenix out of the truck. Spent about half an hour at the shooting bench convincing myself the scope was going to hold zero for a while. The ladder stand is only about 30 yards from the bench, so I decided since it was 5:00PM I might as well climb up and set for a little while. Still recovering from the flu but this was a nice warm evening to be outdoors. At about 6:00PM I decided to have a cigar and when it was finished I would call it an evening. At 6:15PM two antlerless deer came in from the south and I looked them over. The first one was definitely a button buck, and I wasn't sure about the second one but it was bigger. It finally gave me a broadside shot at 20 yards and I let the arrow fly! It turned out to be a button buck, too.
Hate to take out the little bucks, but it will not be wasted I promise you!
Looks like the canner will get a workout again this weekend! I just canned a trial batch (4 pts) of "corned" venison today, so I will sample one of those tomorrow and see if I want to put up a bigger batch.
Took a couple pics, but they are bloody, so I won't post them.
Those Wac'Em exits cut an awesome hole.

Congrats and happy canning! If I lived closer I'd be sneaking into your storage and stealing jars of deer meat.

Thanks for all the congrats so far!
Bob,
I was glad it was small when I realized it was Thursday and the landowner was bowling so I had to do it all alone. With the tractor and new platform it wasn't too bad. Put on the shoulder length gloves, grabbed the Puma Rattler knife and went to work. Only took a few minutes to field dress, then it was easy to load it on the platform for the ride back to my truck. Once back at the truck it's a matter of lowering the tailgate, backing the tractor up. and sliding the deer in the truck bed!
Took longer to walk out of the woods to get the tractor than it did to get the deer dressed & loaded in the truck. I had to take a few breaks to get my breathing under control (still hacking and getting sinus drainage). I'm guessing this was the H1N1 (or at least P1G) flu, because the respiratory problems have been bad. Seems like I need to cough up a gallon of phlegm every time I go from a vertical to horizontal posture.
The good news is that I've cut the cigar consumption to a minimum, since I can't taste them anyway.

The rain should clear possibly for late tomorrow wabi, it would be a great time to get out. I am just back from trading cards in the trail cams and it is coming down pretty good here west of you.
The buck activity is unreal. I have more bucks on the trail cams then I do doe's. According to Shrader they are moving out at the farm as well so they have to be doing the same at your spot.
