2 very different bows! You really need to go handle both and decide for your self. Both are terrific bows but they are 2 very different sizes. The Ibex is small, perhaps too small for bigger people.

I shoot both (Phoenix and Vortex) both great. If I could keep just one (no way) it would be the Phoenix. Not as loud, easier on serving, shot not as harsh, easier to cock, more than enough umph for complete passthrough at reasonable ranges. Hitting 3" circle at 50 yards not a problem with either bow using the LumiZone trajectory compensation scope reticule.
Vortex, Phoenix, single-shot rifles and handguns.

Ibex vs Vortex
Hey Beagles1111,
I too have narrowed down my 1st crossbow purchase to be an Excalibur. I saw your post the other day as I asked myself the same question. Ibex or Vortex? Here is what my research has shown me. The Ibex looks(better) like a different camo than the Vortex on internet photos that have been provided to all sources by Excalibur. The difference is the lighting on the stock photos because they are both the same real tree AP(all Purpose) camo. The I and V weigh almost exactly the same(1oz diffence?). The I is 1 inch shorter in overall length than the v. The I is 175lb/14.4inch power stroke, the v is 200lb/15.5in. This is the only major part of the choice between the two. I wanted to compare them in person because everyone speaks of the overall size difference. Well I held both the Vortex and the Phoenix today. The P is the same bow as the I without the thumbhole stock. I thought that I would see a difference in the width of the limbs but they appear to be the same width. I put the bows on top of each other and the width was the same and the overall length difference was hard to notice. Bottom line, they feel almost exactly the same, there was no major size difference to change my choice. I am a smaller adult so the shorter stock works for me and the thumbhole stock is the way to go. I have short fingers and it felt like a better fit for me to reach the trigger on the thumbhole stock. Both bows appear to be built with exactly the same hardware and materials.
It all comes down to 2 things for me. 1st will the 175 be easier to load over and over as I plan on shooting my bow alot. That 1 inch difference in the power stroke will make a big difference in cocking the unit over and over. The power is plenty for me as I will not use it on larger than deer sized game. The bolts will be easier to remove from targets and do less damage to them. All this leans me to buying the Ibex.
2nd, the only thing that clouds my choice is the V sells for around $100US dollars more than the I on most sellers sites. No brainer right? Wrong. The Vortex can be found in more locations and Ebay sales than the Ibex and the price difference narrows to less than $50 between them. The big question is? Spend an extra $50 for the 25lbs of extra power? I think I'm going to buy the Ibex and I think it is the best choice for you too! You can't go wrong no matter which one you choose.
Hope this helps, BarterBoy.

That's because all Excals have the same limbs and risers. The diff's are in the rail length. Fwiw.I thought that I would see a difference in the width of the limbs but they appear to be the same width. Crankaroo not really necessary, for me, to cock Vortex (69, twice cut back and both shoulders) but it was getting close to that with Equinox. Try a good rope cocker first before you invest in something that costs well over $100 that you don't need...Like I did.
BTW, shortening the cocker rope so you have to pull the bowstring up 6'' of so to attach second hook really helps reduce strain on back/elbows when cocking.

It's not only the extra length and 25 lbs of draw weight. The Vortex shoots 25 fps faster. I have both, and as much as I like the Ibex for all day shooting, the Vortex always seems to get the nod when shooting 3D or hunting. I like the extra speed! Ibex will do anything you want to do though. YOU make the choice, don't let others on here make it for you!
