Great day to be in the woods

Post by B-Logger »

I was late getting out this morning and then couldn't stay very long but saw 2 bucks and a doe. I almost took the buck as it was a gimme shot (I've had several of those so far this year) but ended up just watching. He came within 5 yards of my tree.

After noon I sat all afternoon without any sightings. My wife contacted me on the 2-way radio telling me she was home and wanted to know how the hunt was going. I had not seen anything yet. I no sooner than put the radio in my pocket when I saw a buck tailing a hot doe.

They were sort of coming my way. I could see them crossing a food plot and I was maybe 150 yards west of them...with a west wind. I waited but nothing. Then suddenly I spotted 2 bucks following a doe. Then more! Several does and bucks. Then one doe came on the east side of me and a small buck on the west side.

Suddenly I spotted a bigger buck but could barely see him through the brush and he came from the south and went east. He came back a couple of times. Then a doe came on the runway which would pass at an angle to go behind me but a nice shot area. Aha, the buck followed. But both veered off the runway but still within range. The buck stopped twice with trees hiding the vitals. Finally he went forward and I took the moving shot. He did not go far and I was able to see him fall. It was a solid heart shot. I did not find the arrow but will look tomorrow. The back part of the arrow was in the chest but not the broadhead.

The antler is weird but I liked it so took him. I do apologize for not cleaning off the blood before taking pictures. I usually don't do that.

Longwinters, he is a 4 x 2. I gave up on the Lions years ago. lol

Planter, yes, almost dead center in the heart. There was nothing broken on the antlers so it grew this way. So far I've found nothing else unsual about the body except lots of fat. In the past several years we have not seen that much fat on deer so this is good to see.

Thank you to everyone. Now comes the cutting up of the meat.

I feel for ya. It goes to show what an owner can do to a franchise by running it into the ground. We here in Cincinnati suffer from the same fate, a delusional owner who thinks he knows everything to know about pro football. It is obvious that both know precious little.

Nice job on the buck.

Ya Mike. Cleveland hasn't been too hot lately either. We've been hoping that Mr. Ford would sell the Lions and buy into Cleveland...

Where's Bobby Layne when you need him? In the bar, probably.
