Freezer Buck Down
Well, I finally tagged an animal this fall. My second deer with my Exomax.
It was so beautiful yesterday afternoon, I decided to take off from work early. Great afternoon to put up a treestand for the muzzleloader hunt and some late season archery. But I thought, why not throw crossbow in and sit for a little just before dark.
Looked like nothing was happening but it was a beautiful clear evening with very little breeze. I surveyed the hardwoods expecting to see something moving between the corn and the alfalfa field which was growning back in nicely. No dice, but I figured that at least my stand is up and maybe I could sneak out Monday for some muzzleloading action before work. I like this spot better in the morning anyway.
Just then, I noticed movement to my left in the field. Well, look there...a smaller buck walking down the middle of the field. Way too far to shoot at this point, so I got on the doe call...then the buck grunt, then the doe call. Every time the buck stopped...as he walked along, he seemed to be getting closer but still on a parellel to my track. Hit the doe call twice more. At this point the buck was as close as it was going to get...clear shot at 42 yards.
I took the shot...the deers' front legs buckled and then he ran 75 yards in an L shape and suddenly stopped. He looked around for a second and dropped like a stone.
I walked up to the buck. A 2 year old 6 point...Shot was through the shoulder bone and out the rib cage on the other side...All I can say is a Boo String with carbon arrow and a Bolt Cutter...Devetation.
Although I wouldnt take the shot...I regularly practice at 70 yards and I bet you could put an arrow right through a deer at that distance with the setup I am using. Gives me a lot of confidence for moose hunting next fall anyway.

which is why 40 yards should be the maximum shot anyone should take with a bow on a RELAXED deer.Czy Horse wrote:What a lucky shot. . .
42 yards - sound of bow shot got there in 0.112 seconds
42 yards - arrow got there in 0.36 seconds if arrow speed was 350fps
Deer had 0.248 seconds to react
great shot on that deer xcaddis.
