Maple, that was a great narrative along with some great pictures.

Good luck with the quackers.

Hard to say Tom, since there were no obvious signs.

He didn't smell rutty at all, wasn't on a scrape line, had a good lining of body fat, there are big bucks around here tearing the place up, so he was a very subordinate buck.

Given his 190 pound weight range and 2 1/2 year age (estimated, until I get the jaw out) he was in really good shape. I want the jaw to age him 'cause I like to keep track of the herd as much as I can.

Thanks Maple. With everyone talking about the rut going on in their area I'm wondering what is going on in ours. Everything looked good prior to the rifle season but the weather never got colder. I checked my spot in 64B last Wednesday and there wasn't even a scrape but the bucks are in the area. Unfortunately, every deer track there was followed by a coyote track. In 58 it looks like it hasn't started yet. Lots of scrapes but no activity. Then again, my buddy's 15yo son just got a 10 pointer on that snowy Thursday in 59 and he says the buck was in full rut.

I guess I'll know more on Saturday!
