I have done it also
I was shotting at a little piebald buck when I did it.
In the excitement of the moment I got my thumb to high. Yeow!
The string hitting my thimb either robbed the shot of energy or deflected the arrow or, more likely, both. Instead of the clean pass through shot the bolt skidded along the ribls of the buck.
I saw the deer run off with the arrow sticking out of it's side. Worried that I had not made a killing shot I prayed to God to let the buck die quickly and not suffer for my error.
I found the buck about 80 yard from where I shot him laid up in a thicket, dead. God did answer this prayer. The arrow had cut an artery in the "armpit" of the deer and it bled out quickly.
I think this may have been enough of a lesson that I won't make this mistake again, even in the heat of the moment.

Well it Happened
Fortunately I have not had that experience and by the testimonials on the subject I am not envious. However, your misfortune with story and picture are much appreciated in reminding all of the pain.
Hope your better soon and best of luck in getting your freezer filled.
Good luck.
