I don't think I would hunt with it, but if it proved safe for me and my bow I sure wouldn't be against playing with one!

Interesting idea but it wouldn't be legal here. Our law requires a minimum length of 14 inches for any projectile shot from a crossbow. This includes bolts, arrows or any other projectile.
All I ever shoot from my crossbow is 20" long arrows.
I have a 22 caliber semi-automatic Government model target pistol (with the bull barrel) that's dead nutz on out to 50 yards. I've done head shots on squirrels with it past 70 yards. The thing is that repeatable and scoped.
It has been 25+ years since I've done any small game hunting but I still use my 22 pistol for dispatching unwanted vermin on my property.
It would take a very astute game warden to determine you were intent on losing your marbles, one at a time.
I used to mold round ball in 32, 45, 50, and 54 cal. Would be a biggie to make min weight.
I shoot solid lead balls all the time when small game hunting. I pour 1 oz of them down the bore of my 20ga smooth bore flintlock. does a good job on bunnies
