help needed to refletching a fire bolt

Post by rsm2532 »

I been Archery hunting since I've been 12yrs and I am 38 now, I never used Carbon Arrows, until I bought this Excalbur - Equinox 11/09. I shot two deer with the same arrow and now the fletchings are wavy. I heard if you put them under steam you can straighten them , but it did not seem to help. I would like to replace them with 4 inch AAE vanes. I do my own Aluminum Arrows up, but never did any work on carbons arrows. I would appreciate any one's help on how I can replace these vanes for a firebolt arrow.

Thanx

Use the steam coming out of a kettle or a hair drier or lighter(careful). Where abouts are you from?

Just re-read your post. It is no different from fletching aluminum shafts. Blazers & Fusions work better at steering than 4" vanes. They are also more durable, give better FOC. The short shafts we use need more steering.

When I remove old fletchings off my aluminum arrows I use a razor blade, then fine sand paper to remove the glue residue and then Rubbing alcohol. I do not think you want to use a razor blade on carbon arrows.

I use a razor blade on carbons, I would be careful with rubbing alcohol though, it can and will leave a residue.

I use a Zip Strip to remove old fletchings. I've not had any residue issues since I started using 99% alcohol.
If you use a wrap you'll find fletching much easier but it does change your FOC and you can't replace just one fletch. If I use them I cut them in half.

You square the front of the fleth or round them off. How you keep them all the same?

Sorry, I should have said if I use wraps.

I live in Pa. Are you close to Hazleton, Pa? I will fix you up if you are.

I use a Zip Stripper to get most of the glue off or a box cutter to gently scrape the carbon shaft. Then clean with acetone and use Gorilla brand super glue to fletch my arrows, also with 2" vanes...Blazers, Hunters or Fusion. Hunter and Blazers fly to the same poi Fusion is a tad off that.
