You just reminded me I have a rack of ribs in the freezer.
Got them during a "midnight madness" sale the local grocery store has every year at Halloween.
I'll have to dig them out and BBQ them, if they turn out to be a bit tough I'll try the crock pot!

i agree with you that you dont have to slow cook young pork ribs , but i still boil them at low heat for a couple hours to lose some of the fat .

Surprisingly, Cola and bbq sauce in the crock pot does a nice job tenderizing too. And they don't taste like cola.

Sounds mighty good, Mr. Stout! :D 8)

I'm thinking about heading that way ... did ya eat 'em up yet? :?:

Hard to go wrong with a pig ... you just have to treat the older gentlemen and ladies with due respect. You're right: knowing which pig you're dealing with is key.

As to old ribs: Y'all folks need to set your meat-markets straight on that mess!

There aren't many old pigs going into anything but sausage around here. People would never stand for it.

You shouldn't either! :P

Come on down and shop at the Meat Farm and we'll load you up with some prime young pork ... you can even get whole hog's-heads, fresh brains and ready-to-cook chitlins there! I'll meet you in Plymouth and take you out to a barbecue joint!

Call when you get past Raleigh! :D :D

Yes, the ribs are very tender from the crockpot. My wife makes spare ribs and sour kraut, with sausage every new years day.

I don't prefer them that way, I smoke them in the brinkman, but they are VERY tender from the crockpot.

Bob, thanks for the bring-em- back from the grave tip!
Laura, I have a recipie for bbq sauce = amts of coke and ketchup.

Brisket tip: been told the in store test is to be able to bend the package double, that = tender.
haven't gotten a tough one yet since I've been using the trick, but small sampling number.

You know you're out of your league with someone who stores pictures of meaty ribs in his photo albums.

edit: And nice pictures too, I might add.

And eaten . . .

I do like the crock pot.
