Swing and a miss...Maybe

Post by saxman »

Took a shot at a mature doe this evening at Jay's,about a 75 yard shot with a 45 cal ML.
After the smoke cleared it went dark on me,Jay and I will go look in the morning.
Here comes that sleepless night we all dread.
Wish us luck.

Hope you get 'er and all ends up well, Scott! :D

I'm sure you had good reason, but why did you have to wait 'til morning? Just curious! :D

I looked untill blac dark and then a little longer,I'm not familiar with these woods so Jay said he would ride out with me in the morning.
I hate to do it.

actually Scott confided in me that he was skeered of the dark! I suggested we let things settle down till in the morning and start looking for sign then. it was a fairly close shot so I think the chances are good we will recover him in the morning.

I take it you're shooting an inline?
I had one do that to me last year. It was always good for around 1" @ 100yd groups, then suddenly opened up to not being able to keep all the shots on paper at 100 yards. I suspect plastic (from sabots) fouling, but since it's not my favorite muzzleloader I just hung it up and grabbed another one.
Didn't hunt gun or muzzleloader season this year because my freezer's full of Phoenix victims. :D

B.D.D
Big doe down.
I put the smokepole in the case and picked up Jay's Remington 30-06
I got in early as I figured they would move early with the warmer temps
I was right.I nodded off and woke to two deer in the food plot at about 70 yards
The deer were facing away from me so I sat there waiting for a good shot and to see what else came out.after about 20 minutes she turned quartering away and I coul see the off side leg,I squeezed the trigger, nothing, squeezed again, nothing
this is a right handed gun so I figured I had the saftey on so i switched it
squeezed the trigger again, nothing.
So I put the saftey back in it,s position and looked at the action, the bolt was not closed all the way,I leveled the crosshairs on the off side shoulder and squeezed,BOOM she went straight down.
Now I know my ML has problems.
Now Jay can save the TV dinners for later
I have some chores to do.
