Need advice

Post by DaGriz »

I've been a compound crossbow advocate for many years, owning four different crossbows. They have served me well with no problems and accounted for many critters. The past couple of years I have come to enjoy and appreciate recurve crossbows. I find my self more and more leaving the compounds at home and hunting with either of my two recurves, (TenPoint GT Curve and Excal Y25) switching from one to the other every time I hunt.

I am now seriously thinking of getting another recurve, specifically another Excal. I am have a bit a brain fart deciding which one to buy. I'm not a "speed freak" and DO NOT shoot at any critter farther than 30yds, I hunt mostly from a ground blind or still hunting ( spot and stalk). I'm looking hard art Phoenix, Ibex or Vortex.
Need to mention that I have long arms so short stock is pretty much out of the question!

I'd like other avid crossbow fanatics to provide their opinions if you would please do so.

Thanks for the assistance.

I haven't gotten to shoot either of those bows. However, I have heard a lot of praise for the Phoneix. I've heard good things about the others too. I don't think you can go wrong with either pick.

Wish I could help you a little more, I'm sure someone will jump in and save you. :) You can always ask Boo . . .he owns every bow known to man.

Now that we have an Ibex in the family I have to say I am very pleased with the performance of the bow, it is set up for my "smaller" wife so it isn't very comfortable for me to shoot, scope wise, I am 6'.
I still manage to shoot it a lot because I find it such a treat to hold compared to my Exocet.
So, in your list of bows I would recommend the Ibex, works good for us!
I use brass in my Exocet arrows, hers are stock Firebolts, both bows shoot the same speed, 300FPS.

Yo friend how it going ? Great i hope. Ok if you like the T-hole stock the vortex is real sweet but we knowed it pulls 200 lbs. Next the Ibex T-hole at 175 lbs another very easy to use model. The Phoenix is Ibex with reg. stock easy safety use. I have one & love it. Tell you i have a bad hankerin fer the Vortex. I have shot the Vortex & Phoenix not the Ibex but its the same thing. Vortex gets my vote of those 3. O f course my favorite best shooting & made Excal model in the Vixen!

My husband recently acquired my Ibex because I got the Vixen II. He has always admired it and liked shooting it. I got him the extender for it and he's really happy with it now. He has looooong arms.

BTW, how did you do on your elk hunt?

My phoenix is a beautiful crossbow, I have nothing butgood things to say about it. Like they say try it you will like it. But the best thing to do is go to the dealer and see how each bow feels in shooting position, what ever feels right is the bow for you.
