Looking at a Used Crossbow

Post by CDN Taxman »

What should I be looking for?

It's a relatively new Excalibur bow without a scope, quiver, etc.

What should I look for when taking a look at it?

Thanks,

Mike

There is not much to look for. The thing under the most stress is the limbs, and they are either splintered or not. usually very obvious when you look at, but dont be fooled by slight blemishes in the limbs. The finished on excal limbs can be described as "rough" from the molding process, and its hard to mistake a splinter for anything but a splinter! Things like strings are very replaceable and no reason to be concerned. No scope so nothing to look for there. If you like the $ then go for it! you will love the bow no matter what excalibur it is!

And welcome to the forum! Even if you are the "taxman"

With the string off make sure that the limbs are either parallel to each other(older model) or swept forward. Not a whole lot can go wrong that can't be fixed easily.

Would the wonderful Excalibur warranty actions I always read about be applicable to a used bow?

I have read on this forum somewhere to check the limbs...cock the crossbow , then run a cotton ball up and down all sides of the limbs..if you get any snags on the cotton balls be wary of their condition..good limbs should not allow the cotton balls to snag :D
