Exocet cocking rope

Post by End of the road »

I know I’ll probably be opening this up for some cute comments but how long is your cocking aid?

I got an Excalibur cocking rope with my new Exocet but it was not pre-made and had one end loose which I had to thread through the hooks and handle and secure with a knot at the end. I have been experimenting with different lengths before I cut off the excess but was wondering how long the aid should ideally be. With shorter lengths I have to pull back on the string a ways and am a little concerned about pulling off center but the pull to cock is shorter and maybe a bit easier. With longer lengths it is easier to hook up but the pull is longer and maybe a bit harder at the very end of the draw. Just wondering.

I set mine so I have to pull up the second hook some 6'' after hooking the other side. Not only makes cocking much easier but enables me to hook the cocker on the bow when transporting it to and from the stand/vehicle.

Thanks everyone for your input. I'm 6' 3" and currently have the aid set so that I have to pull back the sting about 5-6 inches. Looks like that is about right.

I'm 6' by 4" and found a minimum rope length to be ideal. I found this after numerous adjustments to length before cutting any excess rope.
