I went on a noon hunt today. Around 1:30 I catch a glimpse of movement to my left side, behind me. I turn to see a nice buck, probably 6-8 point, walking through the crabapple trees at 20 yards. He's weaving back and forth heading away from me. He's sniffing the ground, then looking ahead, repeatedly. Moving at a good pace, but, in no hurry. I raise my Exomax and go, "
blaa". He keeps walking and weaving through the trees. I say,
"blaaaa". He keeps walking. At this point he is 35 yards away and I say,
"BLLLAAAAAA!". He keeps going. At the edge of the woods he stops briefly, some 70+ yards away and looks ahead. Never in a hurry, tail wagging . . .must have been deaf and legally blind. He didn't act as if he ever saw or heard me.
So, I change my position to watch the area he came out of in case there is a second deer following. At 2:00, a doe comes out from the area I was previously watching which is now to my right and behind me. She immediately busts me and heads for cover.
Stupid buck . . .smart arse doe. I was just happy to see them.

I'd rather wear out than rust out.
Perception trumps intention.
