Accuracy Problems
Accuracy Problems
I have an Exomag with mag tip limbs. I recently switched from a customized string to one of the Excalibur standard strings for mag tip limbs. I am having trouble getting any kind of consistent groupings using Excalibur Firebolt carbon shafts. However, using and Easton XX75 #2217 aluminum I do get consistent groupings. In both cases I am shooting thunderhead 125 broadheads. Has anybody seen this type of problem before and have any idea on what my problem might be?
Re: Accuracy Problems
g'day, l'm lucky enough to have 2 exomags & both shoot awsome but both have caved tip limbs try the excalibur x-act broadheads or the boltcutters & excalibur super flemish string part no. 2097. regards frank

Re: Accuracy Problems
I'll bet it's the speed. Do you know the speed difference between the two set-ups?
The faster you go the more precise your arrow needs to be. The Thunderheads will plane more at higher speeds. Very few members use the Thunderheads on the faster set-ups because of this.
The spin test is critical for fixed blade broadheads. Make sure there is no wobble at all. You may need to play around with the collars. You may have to eliminate some shafts. Get your best two or three and try again.
Are the carbon arrows consistant using field tips?

Re: Accuracy Problems
Hey Sumner, thanks for the reply. I have come to the same conclusion you have. When I use a heavier arrow I get much better groupings. Heavier arrow slower speed. I think I will be looking to switch to a lower profile broadhead in future and that will hopefully resolve issues when shooting a lighter arrow. For now I am going to shoot xx75 2119 aluminums until my supply of thunderheads is exhausted. Any recommendations on broadheads? I'd prefer to stay away from mechanicals.

Cutting surface is the key. Look at the four bladed broadheads, like Slick Tricks. The more cutting, the faster they bleed out.
I like the Slick Tricks. They are very well made. However, I quit testing the fixed blades after I switched to mechanicals. There are several fixed blade broadheads in a four blade design. One other note . . .get the thicker blades, they will be less likely to bend. Which is an issue if you want to target practice with your broadheads. A slight bend is bad news at high rates of speed.
Anybody using a solid four blade broadhead?
I'd rather wear out than rust out.

Re: Accuracy Problems
i think the trick to using fixed heads at xbows speed/poundage are weight up front in your arrows to get a high FOC....my arrows are at 21.6% FOC and weigh in at 550 gr with 285 gr up front with brass insert and 125 gr slick tricks....but i took as much weight off the tail end of my arrow also to get higher FOC....between my 2" blazers and trimmed down alum insert as a nock i only have 25 gr in the rear end....my arrows with 125 gr slick tricks hit where my target tips do out to 50 yds....if you balance one of my arrows, my balance point will be just bout half way from dead center of arrow length to the front tip....ever throw a lawn dart

Re: Accuracy Problems
Arnt the G5's fairly solid? Just going by the pics ive never used them. At least with slick tricks you can buy replacement blades. Be nice if some companies made a full practice set though.
Re: Accuracy Problems
I used Thunderheads in the past with my old carved tip Exocet. I switched to newer mag tip limbs and heavier arrows but the thunderheads shot wild. I switched to 125 gr. Slick Tricks a couple of weeks ago and problem solved.

Re: Accuracy Problems
I would give the Carbon Express F-15 Dual Blade 100gr Broadhead a try. They look great and based on the description, they are well made. I don't know anyone that has tried them. They certainly have the cutting surface.

I like the Slick Tricks too . . .however, "complicated" would open a wound that would never close.

Re: Accuracy Problems
true dat, but my 3 deer i shot since i went with the slicks all went down within 15/20 seconds....one went 20 feet, one went 20 yds and the one that spotted me just as i pulled the trigger that was pushed to me by my friend went on an all out full top speed run the whole 15/20 seconds she lived after i punched a hole through her that she covered 400/500 yds till she piled up in a beaver pond....3 for 3 with tricks so i'm not fixin what is "NOT BROKE"
....i was gonna go with them when bear changed there razorheads to look more modern and up to date and looked like chit too
, i've been hunting with the razorheads since 1982 when i started hunting....nice head, easy to re-sharpen and the little bleeder blades were cheap that came in a 12 pack....they went modern and lost my support

Re: Accuracy Problems
Bob . . .one thing I've learned since tracking the broadhead data . . .there are a lot of great broadheads out there. Sure I have my favorites, but, when something comes along that shows an obvious advantage, then I want to give it a try.
I am 5 for 5 with the 2" cut Trophy Ridge broadheads . . .I watched them all drop. One was gut shot and he went 20 yards. The longest went 50 yards on a double lung. I am 0-1 with the Slick Tricks . . .it looked like a good shot, but, I will never know. However, based on the data I've gathered, the Slick Trick is a very successful broadhead.
These side by side blades are definitely different. Like you said, complicated. Yet, I look at them and I'm thinking, "why didn't somebody think of this a long time ago?"
These things cause damage on top of the damage. I doubt the hole would ever clot, too much movement. Your choice fixed blades or mechanical. Lots of cutting surface. Thick steel. What's not to like? In my opinion . . .they have a definite advantage.
I just counted my supply of Stricknines . . .I have ten. At the rate I'm going, enough for a lifetime. If I get low on Stricknines, then I'm going to try these F-15s unless I find out they aren't as good as they look.

Re: Accuracy Problems
the problem is the thunderhead 125 broadheads. try a diff broadhead Slick Tricks or Mechanical Broadhead then let us know how deadly
