A big fawn
I went this morning first time in a while and got this nice big fawn about 8am... It was an interesting morning. I set up on the ground about 10 yds into the bush with the field behind me. At 7:30 or so heard some branches breaking in the distance. I gave a few grunt calls and this deer starts running toward me, stops about 30yds out looking for the source of the sound. He then starts to run full speed right through my shooting lanes, stops 80yds away. I grunt a few more times, he turns around and runs right pass me again. he then runs around in a circle a few times and then heads off slowly. It looked like he (very small buck) was out taunting the grunting deer. It was very interesting and exciting to watch. Never seen anything like that before........20 mins later I see a couple deer filtering through the forest. I grunt and nothing, they don't seem interested, with nothing to loose I keep grunting, finally one starts to turn my way bringing the other with him. I kept grunting they kept coming slowly but surely they were on their way. They took 10 mins or so to close the 125 yd gap, browsing as they moved. One of the two deer (big fawns or small does best I could figure) started in on a half circle to my right while the other deer was partial hidden by a depression in the bush. the one on my right presented itself with a 20yd slightly facing shot so I took it. I watched the deer run off with half the arrow sticking out. It went about 60 yds or so before falling over. the other deer only went a few yards and stayed behind waiting for his buddy to get up occasionally stomping his foot at the downed deer.....
I waited about 15mins or so before I spooked the other deer off and took my trophy. Shot using my phoenix.....

Re: A big fawn
Well I can't say for sure, but these guys were hanging out in the same area that had 2 fawns and a doe earlier in the season, someone took the doe a few weeks back, so I am just guessing these were the left over fawns. Like you said either way a nice young deer. The tenderlions were great on the bbq tonight....planter wrote:That is a BIG fawn!! Just curious why you say it's a fawn. Looks like a decent size doe is all. Either way congrats and I see we have a new member of the club in your photo.
