Me and my girl!

Post by groundpounder »

We spent a long Thanksgiving weekend in the North Ga mountains with my family. I was able to do some hunting with my oldest daughter Alexandria age 11. Friday evening her and I were sitting near the top of the mountain range when a couple of does came running over the top down towards us. Told her to cock her Rossi .410 and get ready! I had to Blah loud to stop them but they stopped at around 50 yards away. I told her that that was too far for her to shoot and they were about to run again so I made the shot with my rifle and dropped the big doe in her tracks. She smiled big and said "That was Awesome!". I told her to stay ready because something was pushing those does. About 10 minutes went by and I spotted another deer coming over the top of the mountain. We did a gun swap with me now wanting her to shoot my rifle. The deer saw our movement but cautiosly came in closer with its curiousity. It got up to about 20 yards away and stopped with all of its vitals behind a large tree. Alexandria had the rifles safety off, aimed and ready for it to step clear for her to make her shot. It didn't happen though. The deer finally had enough and ran back and made a large circle working its way around us. It never really presented a good shot for her to make. None the less a very memorable trip for the both of us!

Great pic GP! I know for my kids its a big thrill just to be able to see a deer up close and personal. Hopefully next time she gets to take a shot.

Congratulations!!!!!!!!!!!
Alexandria had the rifles safety off, aimed and ready for it to step clear for her to make her shot. It didn't happen though.
Sounds like she learned a valuable lesson, even though she didn't get a deer. A little restraint, and passing on a bad shot opportunity doesn't always work out to getting a deer, but the outcome is a lot better than wounding and loosing one.
