Merry Christmas!

Post by sumner4991 »

I know it's a little early, but, I thought it might be fun to post some pictures of years past or maybe some odd Christmas pictures like the one above. It was a display in a store window in Charleston, S.C. while I was there in July.

Here is a picture of my older brother and I with Santa. I think it was taken in 1963. It had been damaged, my brother put the picture in his mouth while my Mom wasn't looking. :) I also thought it was a darn good Santa, considering it was taken on an Army base in Italy.

Here is an old post card . . .

Anybody else have any Christmas photos to share?

This is suppose to be a fun thread. Don't bah humbug my thread!

What does Christmas memories mean to you? Got any pictures??

Something like this . . .1963, I was 1.5 years old. Check out the items in the picture. I remember riding that firetruck like it was a three-wheeler. A bowl of fruit under the tree . . .we were poor, lucky to have the fruit. My parents would sacrifice everything to celebrate Christmas.

My sister wouldn't let me play with the dolls. I swear, I'm looking at the tractor. :)

I enjoy Christmas as much as the next person. What grates on me is all the money grubbers cashing in on it. The commercialism is too much for me and I'm unable to look past it.
I agree but there is one event we really look forward to every year. I guess I'll use this opportunity to make a shameless plug for our church's Christmas Pageant going on this week-end. Last year we had close to 12,000 people attend over the course of the week-end. It really is quite impressive and it's free. No money grabbing. :D

To celebrate the birth of Christ . . .is one day enough?

Image

I think NOT!

TPM . . .the church plays a big part in getting me ready for Christmas too. There's a church about a mile down the road that puts on the "Walk through Bethlehem" every year. That gets me in the mood. That's this weekend! :D It's more like a play in which the visitors participate. There are shops set up, soilders walking the streets, tax collectors(no money exchanged), and at the end of the walk is Jesus in the manger. There is a box for donations as you exit.

Here is a picture of my daughter, my neighbor and his daughter . . .they were "actors/actress" one year.

No pictures to share but my memories of Christmas always brings my thoughts back to me and dad going on our annual tree cutting adventure.

Back in those days he had many properties to hunt (he was a blacksmith & dealt with a lot of farmers). We would take the old car, dress warmly, throw an axe in the trunk (along with his shotgun) and head out to select & cut the perfect tree.

We would arrive at an appropriate spot with hillsides covered in cedars (no pines in this area) and start searching. Oddly enough, those same thickets always seemed to hold a fair number of grouse which he loved to hunt, and he took the shotgun instead of the axe for the scouting.

We would comb those thickets looking for the perfect tree and when I saw what looked perfect to me he would always find some small cosmetic flaw that rendered it unsuitable. After hours of walking and searching, and often with a couple grouse in his game bag, we would end up back at the car.
He would then size up the closest cedar tree of proper height, declare it to be perfect and chop it down and load it in the trunk!

We often had some Christmas trees that looked kind of scraggly, small, and lopsided, but we always had a great Christmas!!!!!!!!!

Mike - It's over for another year. Was a great 3 days! I was there helping shovel horse poop, move the donkeys, and babysit "Mo" the camel. What a hoot! Can't wait to do it again next year! :D
