Bob, check out your rust
This is Bob's trigger parts. Contrary to what was said by someone earlier the internals are ferrous metal parts. The casing is alloy. They are not anodized aluminum so you do have to take care to dry the bow out ASAP before it gets FUBARed.
You need two things to prevent what you see, a touch of oil but more importantly dry the sucker sooner than later. So when we come back from using the bows after having it in damp weather we should put over a hot register and turn up the heat or point a hair drier at the latches and then up into where the trigger comes out of. Then take a wide artist brush with very light machine oil or WD40 on the brush (not soaked) and paint what you can reach. The oil will creep.
When you come in from cold weather you get condensation on the bow right? Bad right? Well you have another choice. Use a good bow case with thick padding and bring it in and leave it in the case. That way no moisture from the house atmosphere can condense on your bow. This by the way is how I handle all of my bows and firearms. Hope this helps boys and girls!
Sorry Bob but I didn't mention which Bob it is so you don't have to turn yourself in. Of course if you express your embarrassment well....Bob's your uncle! That's a Canadian saying for those south of the border.
Hmmm. Bob, do you remember how this goes back together?

Re: Bob, check out your rust
Well,guys!
I have to "fess" up and admit that the beautiful picture posted by Don is the trigger assembly that came out of my Phoenix!
I have say that I probably was the most surprised of anyone!
Sure looks like I will have to change my cleaning procedure after being out in inclement weather.
And,last but not least,I am really looking forward to trying out the modification.(thanks to Boo!)

OK . . .will the real Bob please stand up?
I hunted in the pouring rain, freezing temps, raging winds and blazing sun . . .I did it. I am the hunter, Bob.
That's some nasty looking inards you got there Bob. All those hours and days of dedicated hunting to get them looking like that and Boo will shine it up in a day of polishing . . .what a shame, having to start all over again.
Good job Bob! At least it wasn't covered in moss.

I'd rather wear out than rust out.

Re: Bob, check out your rust
I have some Camellia oil,and some Hanwei sword oil that I bought some time back to use on high carbon steel to prevent rust.
I have never used them on my bow,but mostly on knives that can rust and both are a very light oil.
Anybody out there ever used either one of them?
Is one better than the other?
Don has made some recommendations that I will follow, but I think that any oiling should only be done after flushing out any water from the mechanism with WD-40.
Any other "good" practices that have worked for the guys who hunt in all that bad weather?
The moss is going to grow on me first!!LOL!!
What's the expression?
"live and learn"!

Re: Bob, check out your rust
Bob, I do not believe that one should flush the trigger unit out with anything. Just get an artist's paint brush damp, not soaked or dripping with an oil of your choice and paint what you can reach. One of the wonderful qualities of a penetrating oil is that it creeps. Flushing the unit out will also flush out the high tech lubricant that I put on that is there to maintain the sear surfaces. The lubricant also prevents corrosion.

Re: Bob, check out your rust
Don,my logic was that the WD-40 would do what it is designed to do,and that is displace the water.
Now that I know you put a special lubricant on the sear,I obviously will refrain from doing that.
I have all kinds of oils, penetrating and otherwise,so I will do the light touch as per your advice.
