A 45-year-old woman in Australia's Northern Territory was gardening with her husband and two young sons when she was accidentally shot by her neighbour with a crossbow, police say.

The woman was in her yard around 5:30 p.m. Saturday when she "suddenly felt excruciating pain in her left ankle," a police release said. Hearing her screams, her husband ran to her side and discovered the crossbow.

The woman was treated at hospital.

The family's neighbour turned himself into police later in the day and admitted to firing his crossbow at a stack of old car batteries in his yard, police said.

It's believed the arrow clipped the side of the batteries, skimmed over the dirt, travelled through a fence and crossed a four metre laneway before it hit the woman.

Police said the man was "remorseful" and "did not intend for the incident to occur."

There was no word if charges will be laid.

The shooting was in Bakewell, located near the northern coast of Australia, about 4,000 km northwest of Sydney.

Tragic story, feel really bad for the lady and it should have never happened. Buddy shooting the bow should be charged as he was very careless. Anyone of the family members could have been killed by that bolt - if it is actually true.

It is sad, the media have to go around to the other side of the world to find a tragic story like that. If She was hit with a golf ball and it killed her - you would have never heard the story.

I have to question the accuracy of that story too. Did the husband discover an arrow, bolt or the crossbow? If it was a crossbow how did it get beside the Victim. Why did the neighbor have to turn himself in? If he was the neighbor and brought the crossbow to where the Victim was? Do you not think the police and victim knew or could figure out where the bolt came from and who fired it?

It is almost like there is a hidden agenda by printing that story.................

Thanks for letting me rant.
