Some of you guys are missing an important part. In the past some have been talking about a sweet spot. If there ever was a sweet spot then the affect of any sweet spot is negated by the string stopper. The purpose of finding a sweet spot is to reduce vibration after the arrow leaves the string. But because the string is stopped more or less cold it cannot vibrate more or less regardless of the brace height. The bottom line is that Bill designed the string stopper to give you a decent arrow speed while at the same time lower the shock and of course lower the possibility of limb damage. If the string stopper were to be adjustable it would have given nothing more in return, cost more money and would take away from the KISS principle in adding another place where something could go wrong.

how are the rubber bumpers attached to the metal? it shouldn't be too hard or cost that much to have an adjustable unit by using a threaded rod and jam nut type setup. material would cost pennies and would make everyone happier. but, i haven't looked at one to see if that's even possible or not...

The metal portion has a ball on the end and the stopper pops on over the end of it.

I understand what you are trying to say but answer me this :-

1) If Bill designed the string stopper to give you a decent arrow speed, why is the string (with the S5 on) sitting about 5mm off the BH line nearest the scope, thats about 20mm from the low BH line. That is a lot of fps to lose, just to make your string fit the S5.

2) Adjustable giving nothing more in return. cost more and no KISS. Firstly there are many ways to make something adjustable without adding price or problems. If I can think of some , then I'm sure the bow designers can definately think of some.

You can still use your favorite brace height with the S5 regardless if it (brace height) is high or low.

There is no really big difference between upper and lower lines. So why make it adjustable?
If you can think of some way to make it adjustable and have it cost the same then tell Bill but I kinda think making one size is the cheapest way to go.

I just installed a set and it is only a fraction over the brace height I had on the bow.
I will just put and extra twist in the string or two.

Me too! When saw the prototype,I thaught the bumper design was superier to the on tha the came out. I am sure Excal. R&D would addtress that. Maybe the design required an extra step in manuf. that was not worth the $$ .

Thanks for he reveiws. I to was going to replace the STS but it looks way better (to me ). I have had hack saw, file cut and rub on the STS but I finally have it set at my desired brace (1 1/2) string width inside top line.

When I first received the STS it I thought that rubber bumper design "were'nt no good"

I am going to start searching for just the right "Limb saver " type bumper to drill and replace the ones on the STS.

I put the S5 on my Vortex and it just happened to be perfect for my brace height.
No adjustment needed.
