Don wanted a 13.25 draw length and butt plate so I will cut at 13" even. Image

I chalk the center all the way around and mark out cheek and butt plate.Image

I mark the rail cut out and give it room when shaping. One spot to thin and firewood.Image

I am going to cut a groove for a reference when making the forearm grip.Image

From here on out its grinder and rasps and sanding.

I put a dado cut on the forearm to give me a reference point so I make both side equal.Image

I will be grinding and filing the excess off and forming it next.

I am taking it down to the stock and now the holes I drilled in the center along the length of the bland come in oh so handy because when the edges of the blank disappear so does the feel for the center of the stock.Image

Another pic;Image

These are the tools I use for mass removal of wood.Image

Remember to wear gloves because I did'nt and that mean looking grinder took a little chunk of my thumb. OH, thats another thing you must draw blood at least once during the process or it will not turn out right. :D

That is some fancy fiddleback. Once you have put on the last coat, it's going to twinkle. Nice wood--nice work.

So . . .what will the DNA of that stock be? Be careful!

Now comes the hard work, eh? It's all that touchy/feely work that I can't master, the artwork.

Good looking stock Mike! Even better now that you left your thumb print on it.
