What are your thoughts on this hunters set? They are made from D-2 SS, hardened and tempered to 54-56Rc. Bead blasted for a matt finish. Hatchet is 12+/-inches long, 1/4inch thich. LIight enough top carry all day but strong enough to split the pelvis on an elk or deer. Knife is same material 8&12 inches long. Handles are Northern Birdseye maple.
Is this set something you would want and use? Looking for feedback, Good, bad or ugly.
Forgot to ask, What you would realistically pay for a set like this?

Good looking but functional? Not so much.
I'm superstitious about only one thing: can't hunt without my old style Buck 110. Lots of lookers stay home when we go hunting.
Those are very nicely designed the knife is shaped very well it mat be a bit longer than I like for deer hard to tell I have never used a hatchet for hunting never seemed necessary for me but that is a really a nice one.
Those are very nice piece's you got there!
I like the Steel as well, but prefer 440 Steel.. I guess the value around
$200.00 to $300.00. My self, would like a set exaxctly like that
except without the Hatchet, but a gut knife exactly like the "OutDoor Edge" one.
Nice long blade one, rounded blunt end, and the set around 9"in. instead of 12"in.
How about it?
Big John
Phoenix - 375 gr. BEE's (babyneilsons)
Micro 315 - 410 gr. Zombies/Lumenoks
Micro 355. - Punisher-Zombies/Lumenoks
beautiful looking set , i second john estimation of 200 to 300$ range but i think it would be closer to 300. i'd love a set like that , i think the hatchet would actually would be more useful than people think at times
nice set i got a buck hatchet real thin too something like that, real handy in the field and real sharp. great for wacking limbs from stand or spliting deer.
I have bought a few custom knives and they've always been in the $175 to $225 range. These were high quality knives made to my specs with a sheath of my choice. I've given more knives away than I've kept. I gave one to Awshucks and Danny Miller. Both very cool knives. I think custom knives make great gifts! Darrel, don't start on me!
Very nice, I agree with 200 to $300 value. I hunt moose, hatchet is a must, bead finish is also good, I also like 440 steel, long knife is also a must if you have to 1/4 a moose in the field, 8" min, the perfect knife would also have a guthook and a bright red handle so I wouldn't loose so many. how much are they?
Thanks for all the comments! Boo said custom made knives make great gifts. If I honestly had to put a price on these it would be in the $400-$500 range, based on what I see other comparable custom stuff selling for
Knife making is a hobby for me and I only do it when I'm in the right frame of mind. I don't rush and I won't be hurried. It is a lot of work and painstakingly meticilous when you do it all by hand with no automated equipment. I make the blade shapes to what I feel works the best and what will give the best service.
I don't make a lot and when I do make some things, I usually give them away to people who I know will appreciate and put them to good use.
