I walk really slowly to my stand, and wear everything I plan to wear for the day. I like taking my time on the way in, I see and listen to all the small game in the woods.

With regards to sweat, I am kinda lucky in that I find anything below 21ºC to be cold, so I usually don't even sweat a in the dead of summer. Must be my body type, I guess :)

I do pack an extra sweater to layer on, and sometimes a face mask. Like a bunch of other guys, I drive in only my base layer, but I crank up the heat in the car, and dread jumping out and getting dressed outside. I wish I had a full size van to get changed in the back of. A nice 80's Ford Econoline complete with a bed, insulated walls and wood like panels. A traveling hunting cabin. Sorry, wrong post this is one of the things I think of while in the stand...
Take it easy.

Once the temps dip I also layer my socks - a lighter liner sock to wick the moisture (something in poly/lycra) and a heaver wool blend sock over it. Works well. I do have to put boot dryers in my boots every night - sometimes I'll have to change my boots 1/2 through the day. Whatever it takes to stay warm & dry! :D

I also pack all of my clothing in normally wearing just a t-shirt in. It's cold at first but with the weight on your back it does not take long to warm up on the walk in~!

I make the trek into my stand wearing only my base layers to avoid sweating.
Once I'm on stand and starting to cool down slightly I will then put on my outer layers to keep warm.

38 degrees is kinda warm for us northern type folks...I've been wearing my shorts for almost a month now! :D

I'm going to try something different this year. Last fall I was quite uncomfortable wit th the number of layers I had to put on to stay warm. Made it difficult to maneuver with the gun in the stand and changed the eye relief substancially. Tried to practice with a few layers on but was not the same. This year I may try buying a heated vest. Walk in with only a long sleve wicking shirt, the vest and my outter two layers (open while I walk) then sit down zip up then turn on the heat when the time is right. Then just turn off the heat for the first drive or two which can get very sweaty too.

They're good tips for the newer hunter, regardless how the thread was 're-animated' :)

pack you heavy cloths. i actually like to wear cotton t-s to the stand and then take it off and throw it in my pack. the cotton soaks up the sweat so your starting with dry skin. then i only use wool or blended silk or fleece insulated underware even next to the skin. polypro might pull water away from you but gets stinky and feels clamy to me. wool baby! the modern merino stuff dont itch for me anyway.

Actually, Stalker, you've got the right idea. Here in the coastal plain of East Carolina, our temps aren't all that much different from yours. Chilly enough to warrant a jacket or coveralls if you ain't movin' ... but get to moving, and, well, you know. It is best to dress "underwarm" on the way in, and to put your warm duds on in the stand. :D

40 degree days are great!!!! Like Spring Gobbler season! i usally wear only a lightweight 100%polyester shirt. When you arrive to stand put your layers on including camo. The key is wicking material. Whatever you can afford !Wallmart sells there brand very cheap.Check label 100% polyester all you need But if you like the pay for logos thats ok too! wash all clothing and exterior camo in baking soda and you will be invisible .

No wonder planter has no underwear on! Thats swimming weather AKA skinny dipping  Most people hit it dead on, Don't start sweating, sweat kills! I make sure everything I wear is breathable, Take my time getting to my hunting area. I'm not into tree stands, do alot of spot and stalk or still hunting, also always have a waterproof cushion with me, beats sitting on the damp cold ground. If a get cold feet, I flex my toes back and forth to keep the circulation going, It helps me IMHO. One other thing, I spent alot of money on camo clothing, pays off big time in cold weather. :D Also have a pair of -100 degree boots, They were on sale haven't used them yet but they look pretty good. :D
