Newbie......gonna pull the trigger!!!

Post by M.J.M. »

Howdy everyone. Iv'e been cruising the site for several weeks now, and WOW......very impressed with the wealth of information here. I have been crossbow hunting for about 6 years now, and am wanting to get into a recurve crossbow....I have finally decided to go with an Excalibur!!! I went to the Deer and Turkey Expo in Columbus Ohio yesterday just so I could visit the Excalibur booth. I had the great fortune of meeting Dan Miller there and he spent a considerable amount of time educating me on excaliburs line of xbows and accessories, what a great guy and very knowledgable! Now that I have decided on Excalibur, my next decision is what model? I am leaning towards either the Vortex or Equinox (doesn't sound like I could go wrong with either choice). Once I do decide, I'm going to give Dan a call and set up a time to make the 3 hour drive each way to his shop to get my new xbow set up and make my purchase. Of course I'm going to have to pick up several of the necessities (wants) :-).
I have gotten alot of insight from you folks here on BH's and arrows and just about everything else excalibur! Hopefully I will be making that trip to Dan's within the next couple of weeks....can't wait!
I just wanted to throw out a BIG THANK YOU to everyone here!

WELCOME!! You have narrowed it down you may want to shoot them first then decide which one you want first cause you will eventually want both

Both are great. Have had both and Phoenix. Equinox was just too much bow for my tired back to pull. Vortex is not much slower and meets my needs, but I shoot the Phoenix (Ibex in drag) most often.
Vortex, Phoenix, single-shot rifles and handguns.
Incurable tinkerer.
Why hunt? Simple, it's BASIC. Why breath?!

Welcome to the forum. As you've probably read already, both bows you are looking at are wonderful. The Vortex won't be as hard on the string serving and will be sufficient when hunting anything in North America. I enjoy shooting my Ibex, the smallest from the thumbhole family, and have amazing accuracy and very little wear and tear on the bow in two years. That said, it's always nice to own the flagship model when purchasing any product.
