bolt ?

Post by shaftthrower »

I would like opinions on 2213s for bolts. I've figured they would be 364gr. finished using 4" feathers 125gr BH. I know this is within EX. specs for arrow weight & 30grs lighter than the firer bolts that came with bow after I replaced 150 tips with my 125 tips. I have a few 2117s and made a bolt out of one total arrow weight 428grs using the insert as a nock and same wgt.point insert gave me 12.2 FOC right were I want it ( the FB is at 11.9 FOC ) The 2117 shoot about 1.5-2.0" at 20 yds. which I figured they would. I was thinking about going with 2216 (same Grs per inch as 2117) but want opinions on the 2213s. I know what the numbers on the shafts mean except is the 22/64 ID or OD? Thanks

22/64 ths, is o.d. 13, 17, 19, is wall thickness. I.E. 2213, 2217, 2219. That's what the #'s mean on the ARROWS. :D You said you made a bolt? out of a 2117. How in the world did you thread it?

The 2213 will be a little liter, I use 2114 and they work fine, you'll be good with what your doing. Xbows way back when the term bolts is what was used and some had 3fletching as arrows do today, it's all in the history of the xbow along time ago.

I think what the guys are trying to say is that modern crossbows shoot arrows. Bolts were metal projectiles, usually without vanes or feathers, then, about 5" long that were used to breech metal armor in the Middle Ages.
Vortex, Phoenix, single-shot rifles and handguns.

i know that if you take Gold Tip brass inserts and install them on 2117 Easton shafts plus a 100-125 grain tip 3" fusion or 4"Duravanes.. these arrows will fly very accurate out to 50yrds!!!! if you shoot Easton shafts i would try this....Weight forward= accuracy
Exocet 200
gt lazer 2 [turkey] gt lazer 4 [deer]
wasp sst hammers
groundpounder
lumizone
ff string

Heres the math.....XX75 weighs 12 grns per inch X 20 =240 shaft...110 brass insert...100-125 tip....31 nock.....27 vanes=518 total arrow weight.
Gold tip lazer 2...7.3 grns per inch=146 shaft...110 brass insert...100-125 tip...31 nock......27 vanes=454 total arrow weight.

lets check Kinetic Enegry of this Easton arrow
300fpsx300fps= 90000 90000x518=46620000 46620000 divided by 450.240[gravity constant] =103.544 fp of KE Impressive

now if you worried about % of weight forward i think you should build some...i shoot all the time...these are the only other arrows that can even come close to my Goldtips in accuracy at all ranges including 50 yards.

only problem with XX75 shafts is they blend.
IF you build them they will fly!

Gold Tip Rear Nock's or inserts are only 22 gr. not 31 gr.

Secret: your math seems to be off, might double check your info on Gold Tips total weight.
And what vanes are you using that weigh 9 gr. each.?
I can build stock Gold tips with vanes, wraps ,110 brass, aluminum rear and 125 head
and still be only 433 gr. Might check it.

Take care, John
