Les Johnson, the host of 'Predator Quest' uses a .204 Ruger and it has become his favourite calibre for hunting coyotes.

I hear good things about the .204 Ruger.DirtyGun wrote:Les Johnson, the host of 'Predator Quest' uses a .204 Ruger and it has become his favourite calibre for hunting coyotes.
I am a big fan of the 22-250 for varmits and coyotes....now let's get to callin'!!

Frank (Frati) on this forum does some damage to yotes with his .223 I still have not decided on my choice yet but I have ruled out .17 caliber .204 is always an option!!

Re: turkey is over now time for some coyotes
Big fan of the .204! I take mine with me almost everywhere I go. With a 5 FPS difference to a 220 Swift, the .204 is the fastest factory caliber made, tremendously quieter than a 22-250 with zero recoil. Those are big pluses for me, the farm lands that I hunt are not always huge parcels, so the quieter gun is a winner for me (and the land owners). Add to that that that hyper fast varmint bulled is highly unlikely to ricochet, it can make for a safer trip too.
If I was in a place where there were no houses for many, many miles I would choose the 220 Swift as my caliber.

when rifle-gun hunting them kiyots, i use 3 different irons depending
on land conture and cover and of course distance.
h&r 7.62x39 out to 200yrds
ruger 10/22magnum 22wmr custom built for 100yrd percision shots
using federal 50gr game-shok jhp's. got lottsa $$ tied up in this one
ifin its notta dead kiyot, its pork on tha table with each trigger pull
then my under 100yrd toy... h&r 17hm2. if ya put it where itsa pose to be put,
he will fall withouta flinch. and its capable of doing that
my son and i do all the moding and handloading for our firearms.
very seldom do we take them past 100yrds... we call them up and have bait
waiting along with a dose of jacketed lead. some are taken with our +bows... they come into about 20-30yrds if the call and time is right
on land conture and cover and of course distance.

They aren't cheap, but you get what you pay for. The cost is relative to a very consistent round, opposed to say bulk .223.one shot scott wrote:how does the $ of shells compare?
I am paying about $30 per 20 box, but with that comes the knowledge you can take a squirrels head off at 300 yards.

Re: turkey is over now time for some coyotes
I went the .243 route so I could have a multi purpose deer gun for when we do the rifle hunts up north. I am proficient with it and can shoot fantastic groupings at 450 and can hit a coyote size target at 675 yards 8 times out of 10 with my reloads. In total I hand called and shot 14 this winter and like every other form of hunting I lost quite a few. For me hunting coyotes has turned into an obsession, I started turning my own calls on the lathe, and the wife finds me scarce come December-February. Now I get more enjoyment of taking buddies out and calling dogs in for them.
Here are some kills from the past winter.

Re: turkey is over now time for some coyotes
There must be close to three quarters of a million coyotes shot in Southern Ontario every year because everyone I speak to who hunts them seems to throw out the number 100. I had one guy last year tell me that he himself had shot 190 and every weekend I would pass by his house on my way to do some morning stands I would see his truck parked in his laneway. I seemed to think males only exaggerated about one thing only.
